Passionately Involved

When I was in college, I was very passionately involved in the my local chapter of Habitat for Humanity. It was the absolute perfect charitable organization for me, as I was an interior design student, and Habitat for Humanity aligned well with studies and desire to help others.

And when I graduated from college entered into the working world of corporate interior design, I discovered an amazing organization called Dress for Success ( Dress for Success is a charity that helps women obtain economic freedom, by providing gently used professional attire, like business suits and accessories, so that they can confidently go to job interviews, looking and feeling their best.

These days, as a mom to four young children, my life is consumed with caring for my family. And one thing I've realized over the years, is that initiatives I was passionate about at one time slowly fade, and new compassions slowly emerge. I still believe in Habitat for Humanity and Dress for Success, but they don't demand my time and energy like they once did.

Currently, I’m passionate for a few organizations that reflect my current place in life, centering around being a young mother. A few of my favorite online or national charities I've aligned with include:

Friends of Maddie: ( Friends of Maddie was started by my good friend Heather Spohr, after the passing of her beautiful daughter Maddie. The organization provides support for families with premature and ill babies spending time in the NICU.

Postpartum Progress: ( After the birth of my 3rd child, I was blindsided by postpartum depression. Not knowing where to turn, I found solace and support through Postpartum Progress, and website and organization that is a landing pad for helping women suffering with postpartum depression and anxiety.

Mothers of Preschoolers: (aka, MOPS: During my first few years navigating through motherhood, this organization saved me. Parenting can feel so isolating, especially when all it feels like you're doing is changing diapers and nursing. This group of women totally became a lifeline in my life, at a time I needed friends so very badly.

I think it’s ok that are charitable passions fluctuate over time. Currently,  my heart likes with helping young mothers and children. And someday, I’m sure my passion will shift to something else, and that’s OK.

What are some of your favorite charities and organizations to support? Shout it out in the comments, I would love to hear where your passion lies!
