Position Objective:

Reporting to the Senior Manager Technical Design, the Technical Designer is accountable to deliver both Design’s creative vision and the Bravado Woman’s expectations through the fit, function, construction and quality of our product from concept through bulk production run. The Technical Designer is expected to manage the assigned projects to meet deliverables, in accordance with corporate timelines.

The responsibility includes working collaboratively with our business partners in cross-functional teams and with colleagues in the product development team to ensure flawless execution. The Technical Designer accomplishes the objectives through effective project management skills, excellent pattern making and development capabilities, manufacturing knowledge, and proactive and collaborative communication both internally and externally with our vendor base.

Position Responsibilities:

DEPARTMENT

  • Understand Technical Design’s role in the product development process using the tools, files, manuals and the importance of the key tools in product planning
  • Be accountable for all files associated with style approval, including final production pattern, approved tech pack, etc.
  • Identify and resolve product issues
  • If required on a limited basis, travel to factories and work with technical teams to troubleshoot, educate, and understand factory capabilities

ROLE MANAGEMENT

  • Manage the product development process from Concept through to bulk production for assigned styles
  • Ensure all critical development tools such as Style T&A’s, Seasonal Overviews are up to date with the latest information
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in building seasonal style T&A’s, milestone deadlines and deliverables are met in the Concept to Consumer (CtC) process
  • Identify product issues to management so they can be resolved
  • Track workflow and provide status updates on projects as necessary
  • Understand the CtC and Product Development processes as they relate to Technical Design

DESIGN VISION

  • Partner and collaborate with Design to execute Design’s vision across all Bravado brands
  • Proactively recommend solutions to maintain product integrity, costs, timelines

FIT STANDARDS

  • Be accountable for all aspects of the fit, quality, and construction of Bravado product from Concept through bulk production
  • Manage and maintain Bravado's standards manuals, and ensure size and fit consistency

SAMPLE DEVELOPMENT AND APPROVAL

  • Accountable to ensure design and fit intent is translated into bulk production friendly garments and maintaining corporate standards
  • Communicate sample and pattern requirements to factory using photos, fit comments, tech packs, patterns, video conference, etc.
  • Prepare, inspect, and evaluate prototype and conceptual samples for company meetings and fittings
  • Lead fit meetings on live model/form, identify potential fit, quality and construction issues and make appropriate recommendations to the team
  • Communicate fit comments to factory, outlining pattern, construction, and workmanship corrections through the Tech Pack
  • Identify and proactively engage business partners when issues arise with recommendations for viable options/solutions and to escalate issues to supervisor
  • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance and Production teams, among others as required

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in a related position ideally in fashion retail, wholesale, or luxury industries
  • Proven track record for delivering successful product to market
  • Proven experience with swimwear, active, Intimate Apparel and/or knit products
  • Excellent knowledge of Adobe Illustrator
  • Knowledge of CAD pattern drafting software is preferred
  • Intermediate skills using Microsoft Suite
  • Intermediate skills using PLM system
  • Post-secondary education or equivalent in Fashion Design
  • Valid passport and ability to travel if required
  • Team members work on a hybrid basis between in office days and remote work days
  • This role requires flexibility to work outside of core hours to communicate with overseas vendors as required
